When the seasons change, so do our moods, our wardrobes, and even our design preferences. As the world outside transforms with the passing of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, we often seek ways to infuse our creative projects with a touch of seasonal magic. One
approach to achieving this is by creating seasonal mood boards. I try to create one every month as a creative exercise and because it's fun. Even if I don't end up sharing it, it's something I create just for the sake of creating, with no expectations from anyone, just my preferences and what I like and feel.
HOW TO CREATE YOUR SEASONAL MOOD BOARD:
Choose Your Season: Start by selecting the season you want to create a mood board for. Each season has its unique characteristics and color palettes.
Collect Visual Elements: Gather images that epitomize your chosen season. Look for pictures of nature, landscapes, clothing, and even food that evoke the season's feeling.
Color Palette: Identify the dominant colors of the season. For example, spring might feature pastels, while autumn is known for warm earth tones. Incorporate these colors into your mood board.
Textures and Patterns: Consider the textures and patterns associated with the season. For winter, think about cozy knits, while summer might evoke images of beachy stripes.
5. Typography: Choose fonts and typography styles that complement the mood of the season. Script fonts can convey a sense of warmth and
elegance, while sans-serif fonts might feel more modern and clean.
6. Layout: Organize your elements cohesively. Think about how you'd like these elements to be arranged in your designs, whether it's for a social
media posts or just for fun.
7. Balance: Maintain a balance between the photos, type, and white space. Your mood board should be visually and aesthetically pleasing and not cluttered and overdone.
Remember, seasonal mood boards are a fun and flexible tools that can be tailored to your specific needs. They're perfect for infusing a bit of the natural world's beauty into your designs, whether you're preparing for a vibrant spring, a sun-soaked summer, a cozy autumn, or a frosty winter. Embrace the changing seasons and let your creativity bloom with each one!
